Groups such as Autism Speaks say that autism is the end of the world, and parents take in the message that a child cannot be happy and autistic at the same time.

It is important that parents and caregivers stay levelheaded and realistic , so that they do not fall prey to the idea that anything is better than having an autistic child. Autism cannot be "cured" or otherwise eliminated. It is more useful to focus on therapies that will help the child gain the skills they need so they can grow into happy, comfortable autistic adults.
