Celexa (also known as Citalopram) is an antidepressant medication, used to treat clinical depression. Some other similar antidepressant drugs are: Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft. All these antidepressant drugs work by increasing the serotonin level in the brain, which elevates mood.
Celexa is a medicine used to treat depression. It assits in restoring a particular type of chemical balance in the brain - it reduces or relieve depression by increasing the supply of a chemical called serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is an important chemical in the central nervous system, and is believed to play an important role in the regulation of anger, aggression, body temperature, mood, sleep, vomiting, sexuality, and appetite.
Celexa has generally moderate side effects, and it differs from person to person. Some of the most frequent side effects of using Celexa include nausea, dry mouth, drowsiness, insomnia, increased sweating, tremor, diarrhea, and problems with ejaculation. [1]
