Incorporating Social Goals in the Classroom: A Guide for Teachers and Parents of Children with High-Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome is a book for teachers and parents of children with autism and Asperger syndrome.

Susan J. Moreno, writing in the foreword to the book, has commented about the utility of the book in these words: "The book provides an excellent portrait of the social challenges involved in all disorders now found under the umbrella of autism spectrum disorders. However, the greatest strength of Incorporating Social Goals in the Classroom is its individualized education plan (IEP) and lesson-planning information. It is bursting with concrete examples of lesson plans and IEP goals. We know that each child is an individual with unique needs. However, not all those who need to know how ro write and/or request IEP goals and the lessons plans have the creativity to read the materials on the theory of these tasks and then come up with specific items to use in the classroom. That is what Rebecca's book accomplishes." [1]

Structure

The book begins with a section on acknowledgments followed by a foreword by Susan J. Moreno. The book has seven chapters:

  • Chapter 2 – Deficits in Social Communication
  • Chapter 3 – Deficits in Social Behavior
  • Chapter 4 – Sensory Differences in Children with Autism and Asperger Syndrome
  • Chapter 5 – Social Skills Assessment Tools – Samples and descriptions
  • Chapter 6 – Intervention to Promote Acquitition
  • Chapter 7 – IEP Development

Two separate sections, References and Index, complete the book with around 200 pages.
