[edit] Question from wiki newbie

Hello Danny. I work at a research center on families with children with disabilities. Because information for families is our goal, I'm looking at the potential of Wikis. I'm new to the Autism Wiki and Wiki community participation generally. Great website. So, I have some questions: Is there an entry or guide I could read about reading, editing, and navigating the entries and their histories?

[edit] Sysop

Hi Danny. Thank you for upgrading my status to the level of sysop at this and Diabetes Wikia. I feel privileged, and it is surly helpful. With this, I am sysop in 6 Wikia wikis, World, Finance, DIY, India, Autism, and Diabetes. I feel really great! Thanks again. --Bhadani (talk) 00:43, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Great, I'm glad you're happy with it! -- Danny (talk) 01:15, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

I think that the contents of this page [1] serves no purpose, and may be deleted. --Bhadani (talk) 16:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Hi Danny. I find that some vandalism has taken place which I reverted. Please keep a watch on that user. --Bhadani (talk) 16:43, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

I also suggest deletion of template: Template:Pee --Bhadani (talk) 17:14, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I blocked him, and deleted the templates. Thank you; I'm glad you reverted all of that. -- Danny (talk) 20:19, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Fine :) - but where are you? Roaming around in the galazy of wikias! --Bhadani (talk) 00:00, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I've been working on a lot of different wikis lately -- starting some, helping out with other ones. I'm really happy that you've been holding things together here and on Diabetes. Thank you so much for all of your amazing work! -- Danny (talk) 12:25, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A request

I got this free image Image:Autismbrain.jpg. Please suggest where it shall fit best - in Autistic spectrum page or at some other place? Thanks.

Hi Bhadani! I think it works well on Autistic spectrum. It's a nice image! -- Danny (talk) 01:37, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I missed the message for days. --Bhadani (talk) 16:43, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wow!

You have created so many new pages on books about autism :) Right now, I am seeing all of them. --Bhadani (talk) 01:12, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please delete

Hi Danny. How are you? And, where are you :) Please delete this image [2] inadvertently uploaded by me. Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 18:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, no problem! -- Danny (talk) 18:18, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Community page/portal

Hey, Danny, I haven't been here in a while, but I just noticed something. The left side Community Portal is a blank page, but Current Events goes to the Community Page with our names on it. Are those supposed to be the same thing? Thanks! -- Ken (talk) 02:57, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandelism

An unsigned user vandelised the Main page. i have now reverted it. Forerunner

[edit] My mistake

Hi Danny. I created a redirect with wrong page name, namely, Ntelligence quotient. Please delete it. I am separately creating another redirect named Intelligence quotient. Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 14:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I got it! -- Danny (talk) 15:41, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
It is morning in India - Good morining and thank you Danny for deleting the page with wrong spelling created by me. One thing more, I still find that I am not able to logg on to many wikias. Yesterday, I talked about in Live wiki help (Wikia) and some more users are facing the same problem though it is being set right :) --Bhadani (talk) 02:10, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Protect main page?

Danny, I think you should protect the main-page to prevent vandalism. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 04:38, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

That's a good suggestion, but I'm not that worried about it right now. I think it's nice that people can come to the site for the first time and see right away that there's an edit button right on the main page. But if we start to get vandalized a lot, then I might be more inclined to protect the page... :) -- Danny (talk) 12:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Welcome

Danny, Thanks for the welcome. I really appreciate your efforts in creating this wiki. I hope to be of help here. I have a question. Can't we simply copy Autism-related pages from the Wikipedia website instead of creating them from scratch? They are GNU FDL, so it should not be a legal issue. Wikipedia articles are already well-developed. We need to make regular refreshes to keep the Autism Wiki pages up-to-date. Please let me know your thoughts. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 20:59, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ganesh -- Yeah, it's okay to copy pages from Wikipedia. We're both under the same license, so there's no copyright problems. One thing to be aware of is that Wikipedia pages can sometimes be very technical and medical, and we're trying to make this site more readable for families. So it's good to look out for that, and make sure that the text that you're copying isn't filled with medical jargon. But if there's good information on Wikipedia that should be here, then please, go ahead and grab it! -- Danny (talk) 22:07, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Talk

Hey, I'm happy to meet you, too! WEll, I run the retroSEGA Wiki, and the UnMarioWiki, as well as being an administrator an the Mario Wiki. Hk

[edit] Youtube Videos

Hey, Danny, last night when I was on Youtube (watching Disney and Muppet stuff, of course), somehow I ran across some people who made videos about their autistic children. What caught my eye was that one of them was the mother of one of the kids in one of the pictures here. So I didn't know if you wanted to ask people who have made videos like that to come on here and share their story, or if people are supposed to find you. Anyway, it was just a thought I had. -- Ken (talk) 19:41, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, that's a good thought. I hadn't thought of that! -- Danny (talk) 20:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use

I am not sure as regards the use of this image in the page Asperger syndrome under the Fair Use criteria. Is the fair use available to wikias? --Bhadani (talk) 15:10, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, feel free to take pictures from Wikipedia! -- Danny (talk) 15:38, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 16:04, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Copied your signature style :) --Bhadani (talk) 16:04, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh, cool -- it looks great! -- Danny (talk) 17:16, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spotlight

Autism Wiki made the Wikia Spotlight! Yay, you're 2 for 2 on both of your brand-new wikis! -- Ken (talk) 03:37, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sample question

I saw this page, and want to develop it a little. Please tell me a little about this page. Presumably, it relates to some sort of questions pertaining to autism or some related term. --Bhadani (talk) 17:34, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recent Changes layout

Just out of curiousity, I noticed that Recent Changes for Diabetes and Autism are laid out differently than Muppet and Oz. What are all those numbers in between the columns? I was trying to figure them out, but I finally gave up. -- Ken (talk) 11:14, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that's a new feature that we turned off on Muppet and Oz. The numbers are the number of characters that were added or subtracted in that edit. It's supposed to help you see at a glance whether the edit changed the page a lot or not. I don't like it, because a) it's distracting, and b) it doesn't really tell you much about the edit.
If you'd rather not see those, you can turn them off for yourself. (I have.) Go to User:Toughpigs/monobook.css. Click on "view source" (or "edit this page", if you can), and then copy that code. Paste it into User:ErnieBert/monobook.css. Then you may have to refresh your cache in order to see the change.
I'm sorry that's kind of technical and confusing... That's another reason why we turned it off on Muppet and Oz. You can turn most things like that on and off on your preferences page, but this one you can't. So it's a pain. Let me know if you have any problems with it. -- Danny (talk) 13:21, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Nah, that's okay. It doesn't bother me; I was just wondering. I'm not really on the medical ones as much as the others. I'll just wander around them sometimes looking for typos. I wanted to mention though, that I guess the upgrade didn't go through, because the (new messages) message is still coming through the way I was telling you before. I can't really tell though, because nobody has left me messages except on Muppet. Maybe you and I (and George) can run a test or something. -- Ken (talk) 16:49, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Nope, it hasn't happened yet. I've been nagging the tech people about it. I was hoping it would happen this week, but it didn't. It's driving me nuts. -- Danny (talk) 17:08, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

I congratulate you on creating this useful wiki. And, I had also thought about the link added by me on the talk page, and I was hesitant to add it. But, I added it anyway. I fully agree with you. The problem and beauty of wiki is that everything stays in the history. In case, it seems advisable, please delete that page as the link is actually not required. I shall continue here to feel the wiki, and will surely try to add some contents. I request you to please feel free to modify and copy edit the same as may be required. Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 19:26, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More fixing typos and stuff

Hey, I found a few more Diabeteses in the Help pages, so I made them Autisms. By the way, you have some red links in the section about making links, but your links are about insulin and blood sugar. Did you want to make them autism-related? Also, on Help:Editing, there's a red link about vandalism, but I didn't know where you wanted that to go. -- Ken (talk) 18:13, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for helping with that! If you can make those autism-related, that would be great. And there's a vandalism page around here somewhere... -- Danny (talk) 18:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, I put in a single term link for Echolalia, but I couldn't find one of those split ones like Glucose|Blood Sugar, which is what's there now. Do you know of any split terms? -- Ken (talk) 19:03, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Yup, I got it. Thanks! -- Danny (talk) 19:11, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re. ideas?

Do we have a page about how to detect different kinds? -- Forerunner 2 May 2007

There's a page called Pervasive Developmental Disorder, but it's really short. Do you want to add to that? -- Danny (talk) 16:17, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Community Page and Current Events Page

Hi, Danny! Somebody had asked a question about the kinds of things the site would cover, but he put it on the Community Page, so I moved it to Current Events. I hope that was all right. I was going to sign in on the Community Page, but I didn't know if you wanted to set it up and add your name first. I don't think those 2 pages are linking together yet, either. I'm going to go say hi to Guillermo. I didn't expect to see him here! -- Ken (talk) 07:22, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing that... I forgot about it! What do you mean, they're not linking together? I can't see what else is broken. -- Danny (talk) 14:49, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, before, when BillK had his question on the Community page, the Current Events page had a red link to where it said "the community". I thought that was weird, since the page was created, it just wasn't set up right. But everything looks okay now. Thanks! -- Ken (talk) 16:56, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh, okay. Cool, thanks! -- Danny (talk) 16:57, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Added some stuff to the glossary

I'm just an anonymous autistic person and I added a few more terms and definitions to the glossary area for you. I hope it helps more people understand the condition and what can come with it. -- User:4.232.63.73 1 May 2007

[edit] Guillermo's story

So far so good? --MuppetVJ 01:06, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More finds

The Current Events page doesn't link to the Community Page, and somebody left a question on the Community Page. Other than that, the site looks great! I wish I could understand all those scientific words! Keep it up! -- Ken (talk) 05:44, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Beep

Hi, this is Danny. Please leave a message.

Hey, Danny! Sorry if it seems like I'm going everywhere and finding mistakes, so I wanted to tell you this site and logo look great, too! I wanted to mention a couple of things. On your FAQ, you had a couple of places where it said "Diabetes", so I fixed them to say "Autism". But you have a link to the American Diabetes Association, and I didn't want to touch that one, since I didn't know what link you wanted to use. Also, the same links show red like I mentioned before. Oh yeah, I didn't know if that was a dummy quote on the front, but I love having the quote from Pooh in Latin! Well, I may come back here sometimes (just to read), since I've always been fascinated by stuff like autism, and there's already a bunch of stuff here! Good luck with everything! -- Ken (talk) 06:15, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
